Skaarhoj ETH-SDI Link
The ETH-SDI Link combines several RCP-IP control signals on one SDI line. It receives "UDP Camera Control" information via Ethernet and forwards it to the SDI output.
Multiple controllers
In this setup, several SKAARHOJ panels are connected to a SKAARHOJ ETH-SDI link via Ethernet, which in turn multiplexes them into the 3G-SDI output. If you own the ATEM Talkback Converter 4K or the ATEM Studio Converter, it is a good addition to your RCP/RCP Mini setup. Any 3G-SDI inputs can be provided at the 3G-SDI input of the ETH-SDI link. Even additional data for color and tally can be included in the signal, which is looped through if incoming Ethernet data does not have priority. For example, if a Newtek Tricaster PGM output sends tally data to the 3G-SDI input, the tally data will be passed through, but can be overridden if tally data is passed over Ethernet from an RCP to the ETH-GPI link.
Camera support
The Blackmagic 3G-SDI Arduino Shield supports the following formats: 720p50, 720p59.94, 720p60, 1080i50, 1080i59.94, 1080i60, 1080p23.98, 1080p24, 1080p29.97, 1080p30, 1080p59.94 and 1080p59.94. However, the camera does not have to use the same video format as the program input. You can therefore use cameras in Ultra HD while the camera protocol is sent to the camera via HD signal.
Single controller
In this setup, a single SKAARHOJ panel is connected to multiple SKAARHOJ ETH-SDI links via Ethernet, which in turn multiplexes them into the individual 3G-SDI outputs of each ETH-SDI link unit. The tally must originate from a single SKAARHOJ panel. Either through a SKAARHOJ panel with GPI input, by using the SKAARHOJ device cores if the video switcher is supported, or through an ETH-GPI link to communicate with GPI and pass information to the shading panel.
Alternative firmwares for ETH-SDI Link
The SKAARHOJ ETH-SDI Link functions primarily as a device that receives Blackmagic Camera Control data via UDP and embeds it in SDI (firmware "ETH2SDI"). However, a number of other firmwares are possible.
"ATEM2SDI" firmware: embeds color data in SDI when a network connection, but not an SDI connection, to an ATEM switcher is possible, for example when there are thousands of kilometers between the ATEM and the camera and a VPN can be used to route the network through. In such a scenario, the ETH-SDI link would establish a network connection to the ATEM, extracting the data otherwise embedded in SDI from the switcher and embedding it "locally". A network with low latency is required.
